Cameron Diaz wearing realD glasses outside shrek 3d premiere

look at my $3 shades

I just found this courtesy of E Online taken by Lester Cohen from wireimage.com. Note that those “sunglasses” Cameron Diaz is wearing are actually the RealD glasses they give out to you before you watch a 3D movie that uses the RealD technology.  Taken on the red carpet for the Shrek 4 in 3D premiere, you’ll notice it’s also a very bright, sun-shining day.

For those who haven’t seen a 3D movie yet, the realD glasses handed to you before the movie are pre-packaged in plastic and it goes without saying that you may keep them, as the costs of the glasses are covered by the extra tariff on your 3D admission.  But they are fairly useless outside the cinema because there are currently no realD screens for your home and if you try saving the extra fee the next time you watch a 3D movie by bringing your own, they’ll reject this deal and you must pay the fee anyway (I tried).  That’s why outside of each 3D cinema, there’s a handy box for you to “recycle” your glasses after you watch a movie, but you can take them home if you like as a souvenir.

However, don’t mistaken them for sunglasses even though they have that retro, nerd look to them and resemble sunglasses.  The polarization technology doesn’t protect you from UV rays at all and the glasses just make the world look weird instead of tinted like normal sunglasses.  They could even be bad for your eyes if used this way, which is why the packaging when you get them, have BIG warnings telling you not to wear them outdoors.

Looks like Ms. Diaz can’t read.

Okay, I’m busting her chops for what obviously be a promotional thing for the 3D technology, but the image in and of itself of a hot blonde doing something stupid is funny.  You can see Ms. Diaz in 3D (although not in her hot form, but in ogre form) in the new movie Shrek 4: Forever After.
