Exxxtacy Chicago 2010 started off like a party where the guy responsible for the booze, is late, but when the booze finally arrives, it’s the best party in the world.
Filling a gap and need, Exxxtacy is the midwest/east version of a pornstar fan convention, much like adultcon. While the Adult Entertainment Expo is what most people think of as a pornstar convention, it’s actually an industry event put on by porn studios and adult companies. The pornstars at AEE are paid by the companies to appear and promote their product. Often, a pornstar is scheduled to appear in multiple booths and while it’s a great way for fans to meet a pornstar, the studio’s product is front and center. A Pornstar fan convention is different because the pornstars are the exhibitors, paying for their own tables/booths. They are there not to promote a particular studio or movie, but their own brand as a performer, advertise their own products and services, connect with genuine fans, and make new ones. For a fan, it’s a far more intimate experience because there are usually smaller crowds, few lineups, and more flexible schedules because the stars, having paid for their own tables, are present all day and not only at certain times. Admission to Exxxtacy was $40 for the day, or $60 for all days of the event.
Because it was Exxxtacy’s first year, there was not a lot of pre-show buzz. I myself stumbled on the show by accident, while reading a pornstar’s blog. There was no mention of Exxxtacy on most adult event listings, compounding the general low-profile these events receive. Having never been to similar events such as Adultcon, walking into the Donald E Stephens Convention Center in Chicago on Exxxtacy’s first day was disappointing. I wasn’t expecting the glitz of AEE, but the cavernous second floor of the convention center with its concrete surroundings and areas divided by plain black curtains, looked very low rent. Conservatively-dressed pornstars, sitting at barren tables, waiting to sign autographs, was a giant departure from the long lines you see at AEE. I was surprised how some big-name stars I recognized, looked rather sad, sitting by themselves, longingly looking around, waiting for someone to recognize them and ask for an autograph. It reminded you of a weekend flea market because they were sellers of sorts. Because pornstars pay their own way, an autograph photo cost $5-$10, DVDs $20, and some stars offered a variety of other goods such as mousepads, t-shirts, and underwear. It’s a small and very fair price to pay when you consider the photos must be professionally printed, and you usually got a chance to take a photo with the star, included with your purchase.
It didn’t help that there seemed to be a lot of empty space and empty tables. The convention floor was huge, but the main area with the tables was small. There was a makeshift strip-club off to one side, a stage area for special performances, and a food-court with lots of dining tables, all separated by a sea of concrete in between. The stage area should have been in the middle of the action or at least closer, but setting it off to the side, created this strange rift. When there was something happening on stage, most in attendance were not made aware because of the lack of a visual line of sight. When something wasn’t happening on stage, music piped from the stage was deafening and unpleasant.
The strip club set up by Chicago’s Pink Monkey, didn’t look appealing. There was an entrance fee (I think it was $5 or $10) that sounded reasonable, granting you in and out access, but a peek through the curtains didn’t look appetizing. The space wasn’t dolled up and looked similar to the food court, except with naked girls walking around. Don’t expect the lounge-like atmosphere like you see on their website. That’s the club. This was a makeshift club at the show. Supposedly some of the pornstars were scheduled to perform inside. I suspect there were only a few (as most were busy at their own tables), but there were regular strippers if you itched for a lapdance after all the erotic energy felt in the air.
Having bought a weekend pass, I wasn’t looking forward to staying longer, let alone coming back, but things started to change. It started at Immoral Productions’ booth area. At AEE and adultcon, nudity was not allowed. Pornstars got around the rule by wearing pasties or tape over their nipples. This rule always seemed rather silly to me because there are huge posters of naked girls and tvs showing hardcore sex everywhere. It didn’t seem like anyone from show management or the convention center brought up this rule and so, the girls from Immoral Productions tested the waters. They put on an impromptu lesbian show that escalated to flashes of breasts, then flashes of pussy, culminating in outright pussy-eating action. Show staff and security appeared, but not to stop the action, but to prevent anyone getting out of hand. After this incident, a few other pornstars showed a little nipple and also not stopped or reprimanded. Word quickly spread that neither show management, nor convention center management, had any problems with nudity so long as it stayed tasteful and not outright hardcore penetration. Combined with the well-stocked bar near the stage area, people began to loosen up and the nervousness of Exxxtacy’s first year, melted away.
By Saturday, Exxxtacy was rocking. More pornstars had arrived (many missed the first day possibly because of travel plans and other obligations) and began to fill the previously empty tables. Some redressed their booths. Locals were talking about the event and attendance picked up. Ever industrious, some pornstars quickly changed their pricing to include topless photos. Where previously $5 got you an autograph and photo, now $10 got you an autograph and a picture of you and the star topless. The best deal at the show was a semi-naked lapdance and photo with Sea J Raw and Angelina Armani for just $20! I was surprised more guys didn’t take up the offer. Some guys took it upon themselves to be questionably frisky, but most behaved. Adultcon can learn from this. Much like a strip club, guys were far more interested, stayed longer, and more inclined to open their wallets when there were naked girls around. Pornstars who weren’t willing to reveal everything, dressed more provocatively. More skin is always a good thing.
Despite the previously mentioned rough patches, the overall logistic of the show was well executed. The appearance list was impressive for a midwest event (for a pornstar to fly out to Chicago, stay in a hotel for a weekend, and rent a table, it’s not cheap) and there was something for everyone. In addition to pornstars, you had:
girls who slept with Tiger Woods (featured, Joselyn James)

There were also a handful of male pornstars respected by male and female porn fans, such as Ron Jeremy. He was only present for Friday and Saturday, but his table area beside Sunny Lane was always surrounded by admirers.
The man who epitomizes big-black-dick-fucking-petite-little-white-girls: Lexington Steele was there…or at least, I think he was because I’m still not sure it was him. Dressed in an over-sized purple shirt, Mr. Steele looked far more homely than his larger-than-life onscreen persona. It was strange; here was the guy white guys joke they would be afraid of their daughters dating, looking like a dad at a school recital.
There were also gentle moments of tenderness that surprised me. One was of male pornstar Mr. Marcus seen in the picture below, signing autographs for a group of female fans in wheel chairs. Here was a big, muscular guy who looked like he could stop a freight train, smiling softly, genuinely enthusiastic about being there and meeting people.
If you were looking for a little celebrity-sighting, Johnny Whitworth of CSI:Miami fame made an appearance, not as a guest, but as an exhibitor! Apparently shooting scenes for his new movie, Valley Of The Sun, Whitworth was in character as male pornstar Vick Velour.
I took plenty of photos and video of Mr. Whitworth, but the production team kindly asked me to remove the photos and not post them. They said it was ok to post pics of his booth area though. It was weird because here was a pretty well-known actor, completely ignored by everyone. Then again, most guys would care more about naked pornstars at such an event.
Exxxtacy Chicago 2010 turned out to be a great time for porn fans because it was an adult show with drinking and nudity like it’s supposed to be. The layout of the event space could be better, and some pornstars were absolute bitches (to me at least), but the show offered something for everyone.
I wrote to Mike Wittenberg of the Exxxtacy Management Team and he confirmed that the nudity policy is by the discretion of show and venue management. He says management at The Phoenix Convention Center for the upcoming Exxxtacy Phoenix, are ok with nudity and the Donald E Stephens Convention Center would gladly host Exxxtacy Chicago again. Now that both the pornstars and the attendees know what to expect, Exxxtacy should be even better in Phoenix and in Chicago next year, so start planning your trip now.
